Final Week: Share Your Input on the Fargo-Moorhead Regional Freight Plan

 

Metro COG is in the final week of collecting input for its Regional Freight Plan update. We are seeking feedback from businesses and organizations involved in freight transportation, logistics, manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, and related industries.

The survey takes approximately 5–10 minutes and closes Friday, October 16.

Project Background Information

 

In 2016, Metro COG completed its first Regional Freight Plan to better understand freight transportation needs and inform regional transportation planning and investment. The plan examined freight infrastructure and demand across the regional transportation network, assessed how goods move to, from, and within the Fargo-Moorhead metropolitan area, and identified infrastructure, policy, and operational improvements to support freight-dependent industries and regional economic growth.

Ten years later, Metro COG is updating the Regional Freight Plan to reflect changes in the region’s population, economy, development patterns, freight activity, and transportation system.

Project Objective

 

The updated Regional Freight Plan will evaluate current and future freight transportation needs and identify strategies to improve the safe and efficient movement of goods throughout the Fargo-Moorhead region. Key areas of focus include

• Assessing current air, truck, and rail freight operations and identifying freight bottlenecks, congestion, infrastructure deficiencies, safety concerns, emerging technologies, and land use needs;
• Examining connections between freight mobility and regional economic development, including opportunities and barriers affecting the region’s logistics, manufacturing, and other freight-dependent industries; and
• Developing recommendations and implementation strategies that align with federal requirements and the freight planning priorities of NDDOT and MnDOT, including approaches for measuring freight system performance.

The Regional Freight Plan will provide public- and private-sector partners with short- and long-term strategies to guide transportation investments, policies, and other actions that improve freight mobility and support continued economic growth throughout the Fargo-Moorhead region.
